Common Questions

What's involved in working with Dr. Darcy?

The first appointment with Dr. Darcy involves the completion of some basic assessment materials and participation in an individual interview. It is an important opportunity for Dr. Darcy to hear about what has brought you to therapy and an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

At the end of this appointment, you and Dr. Darcy will decide about the best way forward. If on-going psychotherapy is to follow, you and Dr. Darcy will discuss the optimal format. After the initial appointment, psychotherapy generally starts on a weekly basis and as it continues, you and Dr. Darcy evaluate progress at regular intervals and discuss any necessary changes.

What are the benefits of paying privately for counseling or psychotherapy?

An alternative to using insurance to pay for psychotherapy is to pay privately. This is where clients pay for services with their own funds. A key benefit of private pay is the increased confidentiality for the client because clinical and personal information is not shared with the insurance company.  Additionally, in a private pay context the client and therapist have much more flexibility and choice regarding the type of treatment, the focus of therapy, the frequency of sessions, and the number of sessions. Lastly, private pay gives the client the freedom to see his or her therapist of choice. Choosing a therapist is an extremely important decision as feeling comfortable with your therapist is essential if you want to get the most out of your therapy experience.
